My name is Jenny and I'm a community fitness instructor from Nottingham. I’m so honoured to have been chosen alongside my sister to be a joint Community Fitness Network ambassador for the Nottinghamshire area. I've always had a love for dance and being active from a young age and danced for years doing tap, ballet and modern. I studied sports at A Level and University but decided it wasn’t the route I wanted to go down so I came home however in the back of my mind I’ve always wanted to have some kind of involvement in fitness but I didn’t know what. I spent many years working while participating in various classes at gyms but not loving anything specific. I just couldn’t motivate myself enough to stick with a gym and wanted something different. Then I discovered Zumba and I started attending my sister’s Zumba classes and I knew I was home and this was where I belonged. When my sister needed cover it made sense for me to go on the course as I knew all her routines. I was scared stiff but determined to prove to myself that I could do it. And once I started teaching that’s where my passion and love for community fitness just exploded. It’s the best feeling I’ve ever experienced standing up in front of a people and helping them to get fit. I passed my ETM in 2015 despite severe mental health and personal struggles at the time and have continued to improve and upskill ever since gaining qualifications in Fitsteps, Clubbercise, Beatz and PWR Beatz. I teach mainly dance fitness with a HIIT program and hopefully soon, Fitness Yoga. I have a HUGE passion for community fitness because of the benefits it brings not just physically but emotionally and mentally too. I suffer from depression and anxiety and I know how incredibly awesome community fitness is to help combat that along with helping with the physical and emotional aspects of taking part in fitness. I love the social side of community fitness and how it helps people to get out of the house, make friends and feel they are a part of something and getting to do that several times a week is a dream come true. I’d love to make it a full time thing but until it can pay the bills I’m happy to spend my evenings and weekends doing as much as I can. I love supporting and encouraging fellow instructors in my area as I know how lonely and how hard teaching in the community can be sometimes and I want to share my knowledge and experience with others and be there in the hard times to pick others up and support them and give them help when they need it. This is why becoming a mentor for Beatz Fitness was such an honour for me as it meant I could spread my knowledge and experience with a tonne of instructors who were ready to learn. As community fitness instructors we may all be competing with each other business-wise in our respective areas, but at the end of the day we are all reaching for a common goal which is to get those in the community active and falling in love with fitness. And it’s nice to make friends with fellow instructors along the way. Thank you CFN for building this amazing network to help all of us community fitness instructors. It’s great to finally have the support we need and I can’t wait to see what amazing things you guys will do. Thank you for letting me be a part of your team, this journey is going to be incredible!
