Community Fitness.. What does that mean? Why is it important?
Traditionally, when someone says fitness you automatically think of the gym. Now, I don't know about you, but I find the gym intimidating. As a mid to late 30 something woman who's a little bit fatter that what she's comfortable with, the thought of standing next to "thigh gap girl" terrifies me!
Rewinding you 2009... I'm walking through the gigantic hallway in The Venetian Hotel in LV when I hear a song which I used to dance cha cha cha to back in the day. I went over to check it out and I find this thing called a Zumbathon happening. I got home and couldn't stop thinking about the music, and the sheer delight on people's faces. I got online and stalked the trainers for about 6 months when they agreed to hold a training in the North East
This was my first realisation of what community fitness actually is!
One common thing that occurs in life is people questioning your ability, the right to do what you do and as a result, there can be a big lack of support. This very thing is one of the reasons this network now exists.
What is funny is that we ARE just 4 instructors! Just like you, just like Sue who teaches in 27 places every week and has been in the industry forever. However, we are just 4 instructors who desperately and passionately want to make the community voices heard. Collectively we have been around the community fitness scene, in 4 different parts of the UK for over 60 years. Collectively, we are or have been teachers, business women, events organisers, trainers, gone through severe health conditions and survived, been trainers for brands, are wives, some of us Mothers and Step-Mothers. Collectively, we share the same desire to impact and we have the biggest balls to do something about it!
We all met by chance, but all through community fitness, we developed our mission and created Community Fitness Network.
Watch this space for CFN... We have lots to say!
